December 14th, 2011

It’s been a little while since I updated the site so here it goes,

After the trip to Greenbush Race park we headed to Jamestown Speedway for the Jamestown Stampede on Sept 23 and 24th. This is a huge race weekend with 350 cars in attendance, 65 of the cars were A-mods. They only take 24 for the feature so it is a tuff deal just to make the show. We didn’t draw that great and we started our heat in the third row outside in the 29th heat. We had a good heat race and ended up 3rd , this got us qualified for the main event.

In the feature we started 18th against a really tuff field of cars and had a pretty good run. We were as high as 9th but ended up 13th. This might not sound that good but it was a hard race and nobody was giving a inch. It was a really fun weekend and I couldn’t of done it without the help from my buddy Eric Guyot and my uncle Denis, thanks a ton to them. We headed home so we could race the final points race at home.

I think we went into the final night of racing in second place and needed a couple things to go right for use to win the championship. We ended up third in the heat after a bad draw and ended up 3rd in the feature with a photo finish with two other cars, we missed it by 2/1000ths of a second. In the end we finished off the season with a second place over all finish. Still a very good year but not what we wanted.

We will regroup and just have to try a little bit harder next year.

There still was one more race left, the Prairie Classic. It was on Oct 3rd in the afternoon. The track was very dry but smooth. It was a little hard to see and passing was very tuff. We ended up with a third in the heat and started 7th in feature and got a fourth, not a bad day but not a great day.

That wraps up the racing part of the year. It was a fun year with a lot of good times with my family and friends. My daughter is starting to tell me where I should be driving on the track ( she is 4 ) so I think I will have my work cut out for me next year.

We also had our annual banquet on nov 4th . My brother and myself were the MCs for the night. We had never done anything like that before but I think it went pretty well. It was a good banquet and a huge thanks to Krista for doing most of the work. A week later Krista and myself went to the Wissota banquet in St Cloud MN.

That basically brings us to the end of the season, the race car is in the shop getting ready for next year. We are starting to plan the 3rd annual Big Al Delaine race set for Aug 9th 2012. But right now the most important thing in my 4 year olds life is Christmas Lol. So on that note from all of us at Delaine Racing have a great Christmas a happy new year and we will see you at the track next year.

September 3rd & 4th, 2011

Delaine racing spent the long weekend in Greenbush MN with not one but two cars this weekend. We brought the mod of course but Rick’s brother Kevin came out for his first time with his pure stock. The first race of the day was Kevin’s car and he did really good getting himself a third in the heat. Rick was up next and with a good draw was on the pole. The track was pretty dry and Rick went on to the win, this would put him on the outside pole for the feature. Up next was Kevin’s feature, he was having a good solid race in the fourth spot when second and third crashed on the last lap and he jumped into second. Got a nice trophy for second on his first trip to GBRP . At the end of the night the A mods came on to the track. The track was very dry slick and handling was going to be at a premium. Starting on the outside of the front row on a dry slick race track can be very tricky because you can be hung out on the first couple laps. When the green flag dropped Rick and Aaron went onto turn one side by side but Aaron pushed just a little and Rick did a cross over and took the lead. He would lead the next 20 laps and win by a straight away. Very good first day with a first and a second for the Delaine gang.

On the second day the track had a little more traction in it and the cars were ready to go. Kevin was up first and ended up with a third place again, a good solid finish. Rick was up next and was starting on the second row inside. It took a couple laps but about the fourth lap Rick took the lead and won the heat. Kevin’s feature was up first and he had the camaro going good in third for most of the race. With a couple to go the guy in second broke and Kevin ended up in second. It goes to show stay on the track and drive every lap clean and the good finishes will come, a really good weekend for his first trip. The last race again was the A-mods and Rick and Aaron were on the front row again. These two have had a lot of battles together and tonight would be no different. After a few laps of hard racing Rick and Aaron settled in to the number one and number two spot with Aaron in the lead. Rick would try to get Aaron for a number of laps but after a tough battle of side by side racing Rick ended up second. Congrats to the number 2 team on the win and the season championship. Still a very good weekend for the Delaine cars. We have a few races left for this season including a close point’s battle at Winnipeg with only 3 points separating three cars. It should get interesting

August 27th &28, 2011

Delaine racing headed to Morden Manitoba for the 2 day corn and apple festival special at ALH Motor Speedway. ALH did a good job raising some good money for the modifieds, and one nice touch was an extra hundred bucks if you won your heat race sponsored by Dave Millar from Millar engines. Well Rick went out and led the whole heat race and won that hundred bucks. In the feature the racing was crazy, the lead was changing every lap and the top five guys were 2 and 3 wide everywhere. With all the tight racing going on something had to give and Rick just stepped over the line a little bit and spun out in turn three. With a couple laps to go and still 12cars in the feature the night was about done. Rick still drove the Larry Shaw Mod back up 7th from the 12th spot. Still a very good night from a performance stand point.

On Sunday the day didn’t start out very well, as we were getting ready for the first heat race we discovered a broken rocker on the motor. We tried to get the car fixed in time for the heat race but we missed it. This put us in a bit of a bad spot for the feature event as we had to start in the 17th position. The track was pretty good on Sunday as well and after missing a couple wrecks and driving hard threw out the 20 lap feature we ended up with a 5th place finish, pretty good all things considered. It was a fun weekend and we would like to thank ALH Speedway for putting on a great show both days.

This week is busy as well, it is back to RRCS on Thursday then off to Greenbush Race Park on the weekend for a two day special. We will give everyone an update next week to let you know how it all worked out.

July 11th, 2011

Delaine racing had a busy few night of racing. We raced at home on July 07 , Greenbush race Park on July 9 and Alh speedway in Morden on July 10th. On the Thursday show in Winnipeg we had a good heat and won that. In the feature the track was getting a little choppy but still not bad. We were moving up nicely in the feature with about 6 to go and we got a flat. We got the tire changed and restarted 14th . Rick drove hard and got back up to 6th, made the best out of a bad situation.

On Saturday we headed down to Greenbush Race Park. It was GBRP Midseason championship night plus their 20th anniversary night. We drew 87 out of a hundred when we came in the gate. This wasn’t a good thing since the feature was lining up on how you finished your heat. Rick started 6th in the heat, with a track that was a little tacky and bumpy. Well Rick wasted no time and went right to the front and won the heat. This put us on the outside front row for the feature. When the green flag dropped rick powered into the first turn and took the lead. Rick built a huge lead that was wiped away with a caution on lap 10. The final 10laps were around the top and fast. Rick won his second feature in three nights at the race Park. We were really happy to win on this night with the 20 year  anniversary night and midseason champion night all in one race.

We headed off to Morden Manitoba on sun after spending  the night in Karlsted Mn. It was super hot in Morden and windy. This is a bad mix for a dirt track running in the day. The track was pretty dry for the heats but still good enough to race on. The feature on the other hand was close to being not safe to run on. We tried once and the drivers couldn’t see anything, so they took the mods off the track. After a very frustrating meeting with track management we agreed to race if they put more water on the track. They put more water on and after a long delay we ran the feature. Rick started 6th and ended up 4th, it was a frustrating day that turned out all right . I hope Morden can work out some of their track issues before it is too late.

Over all a pretty good 3 days of racing, we had a flat, a win, and a race that the drivers couldn’t see. The car is in the same shape as it was on Thursday morning so that makes us pretty happy. We will get the car ready this week so we can do it all over again starting this Thursday.

June 29th, 2011

Since the last update we have raced three times. Twice in Morden and once in Winnipeg. On June 19th we were in Morden and had a pretty good day, we ended up 4th but the car was better than that. The track was very dry and slippery and on a late restart we had to line up on the second row on the outside. The perferd groove was on the inside against the tires. On the restart the car was handling very good and we were hanging tough going door to door with Danny Staff for 4 laps for the second spot. The outside lane eventually gave way to the inside lane but still a good race and a good sign on how the car is handling.

The next race was back in Winnipeg and the track was the opposite of the first race there. It was rough and tacky. We started the day off with drawing 97 out of a hundred, that means we started tail end in the heat, 8th out of 8 in the second mod heat. We salvaged a 5th out of it but it wasn’t pretty. This bad finish gave us a bad starting spot for the feature, 10th. For the feature the track was pounded out  with ruts and holes. We worked our way up through the field and took a 4th out of a bad day. I was happy to get through the night with min damage and a decent finish on a track that ate up a few cars. Congrats to Kevin Sexton on the feature win, its Kevin’s first race back in a mod in over a year.

June 26th back to Morden, mother nature thought that 2inches of rain the night before a race would be a good idea. Well I will tell ya it is not. The track was in very poor shape but the track crew and drivers ( not all of them ) got out there and packed the track in and we got the races in. In the end the track turned out pretty good, good job ALH Speedway. For this race we drew number 1 , a couple days earlier in Winnipeg we drew 97, show how this sport goes. In the heat we had the pole and never looked back, leading wire to wire for the win. For the feature we lined 4th. We had a decent run and ended up 2nd in the feature. Congrats to Boyce on a good run for the win. We will be back in Winnipeg on Thursday  June 30th .

Congrats to my brother Kevin for winning the pure stock feature on Monday night in Winnipeg, good job!

On a sad note we had the funeral for Mike Mooney on Monday afternoon. I hope the Mooney family can find a way through this very difficult time. On behalf of everyone from Delaine Racing and the whole Delaine family  we offer our condolences to the Mooney family.

June 15th, 2011

Delaine racing got three nights of racing in last week. Red River Coop Speedway got running last week after the flood clean up and the track was in great shape. I was impressed with how good everything was out there, good job speedway crew. We ended up with a second in the heat and we were pretty happy with the car. The feature was smooth and slick just how we normally  like it. We are trying a bunch of new things this year and missed the set up by just a little bit and ended up with a 4th place finish in the feature. Over all a good night.

On Saturday we headed over to Greenbush Race Park and took in our first race of the season over there. In the heat we were involved a little dust up on the start and suffered a damaged tire that leaked down to one pound of air by the end of the race, we finished fourth. In the feature the track was a good two lane track and we ended up with a 3rd place finish. After driving 3 ½ hours back to Stony Mountain and getting home at 4 in the morning we got the car ready for ALH Motor Speedway in Morden Manitoba. We left for Morden at 10:30 in the morning under a grey sky. We won the heat and feature last week in Morden so we were looking to repeat. The track has been getting better each week in Morden and I see good things for this track. We ended up with a 3rd in the heat and a 4th in the feature, not what we were looking for but we are learning lots for the future races.

This week the mods are off in Winnipeg. Delaine racing will be at ALH speedway on Sunday, take a little drive and check us out at 2:30 in Morden.

June 5th, 2011

Delaine racing took another trip out to ALH Motor Speedway on Sunday June 5th. This is the second trip this year and the 3rd trip ever for us. This time the track was smoother then last week, but a little dusty at the start of the day. The track worked on all day with water between races and turned out pretty good for features. We started the heat on the pole and won that wire to wire. In the feature we started on the second row outside. It took three starts to get us going but after that we went 13 laps before a caution. Rick took the lead on lap 2 and was building a good lead until lap 13. A caution came out and the lead was wiped away. It turned into a green white checkered finish. Things got a little more exciting in the final couple laps with a door to door finish with the 20x of Boyce at the finish line. Rick took the feature win and the clean sweep of the night, it is also our 2nd win in three starts at this track. We will be going to Red River Coop speedway this Thursday for the first race of the year at home.

We had the season ending points race on Thursday Aug 27 and we came into the night 4 points back of first place. The goal for the night was to win every race we were in and get as much points as possible and let the chips fall. The Larry Shaw Race car was sporting a brand new engine thanks to Winnipeg Engine and it was running great. We started the heat outside front row and led flag to flag, won the race by 7.5 seconds. This put us on the pole for the feature. The first part of our mission was done, we won the heat earned the pole for the feature and the track was getting better. The car did not disappoint, it was hooked up and we had good control  of the race. There was a couple of late race re-starts but in the end we lead flag to flag and took the feature win. The only part that didn’t work out was in the end we were 1 point short for the championship. (the 2 point penalty for hitting a cone in may looks really bad now). I am still really proud of our team and our strong run at the point title.

The season how ever is not over, the points chase is over but we still have 6 or 7 races to try and win, and a close battle in Greenbush Race Park for the championship. Should be a interesting month.

I think the first annual Big Al Delaine Memorial was a huge success. We had 29 cars alot of good racing and a good track to race on. Well it's been a while since I did a full update so here I go. The season has been very wet! I think we went a month with out a race. The races we did get to run I have been fairly happy with. We got 2 feature wins so far out of 7 races. The performance has been good at Winnipeg just a few strange situations at the end of the races has kept a couple wins out of reach but still very good runs.

The car has been very good at the GreenBush Race Park. We have one win and runner up at last weekends Midseason championship night. Congrats to Aaron Holton and the rest of the crew for a good race and a good win for that team.

This week we race against Kenny Shrader and Kenny Wallace in the mods at Red River Coop Speedway July 15th, should be a lot of fun.

It is only a couple weeks until the BIG AL DELAINE MEMORIAL RACE ( AUG 05 ) and it is really looking good. There is lots of interest and I think there is going to be a lot of cars. We are now paying the purse in U.S. Funds, so I think this will really make all partys on both sides of the border very happy. This will be the biggest modified race ever in Winnipeg and will be a must see.

This sat in Greenbush Mn is the Baker cup race. We have won this twice and will be shooting for a third. I will update the weeks results next week.

July 8th, 2010

A nice sunny day and the stands were pretty full, Rick started 5th in his heat race and finished 2nd.  In the Feature he started 7th and finished  5th. Good run for the team. See you all next week for Nascar Night July 15th.

Greg Cybulski, WINNIPEG, MB (June 5, 2010) Two months remain until one of the most highly anticipated race events of the summer takes place in Manitoba.

The biggest Wissota Modified event of the year will heat up Red River Co-op Speedway on Thursday, August 5th. The 1st Annual "Big Al" Delaine Memorial race boasts an incredible $12,000.00 guaranteed Feature payout including a $2000.00 pay day to the winner. Additional contingency prizes and awards increase the purse to $15,000.00!

Al Delaine, who passed away from a battle with cancer on June 22nd of 2009 was a fixture in the local auto racing community for many years. He raced during the 1970's at Winnipeg Speedway before retiring in 1979. Al's love for dirt track racing carried over to members of his family including sons Rick and Kevin who are actively involved in racing. Delaine was also involved in many important aspects of supporting his racing community.

In a showing of love and respect, his family and his friends created a Memorial racing event to pay tribute to the man and his legacy.

Determined to have as many participants as possible on race day, an ambitious fund-raising campaign over the winter netted the monies necessary to draw competitors from neighboring states and provinces for one big night of racing.

Sponsors who came on board for this event include Imrie Demolition, Trish Rentals and Green Way Bio Diesel.

"We would like to thank everyone who is making this race happen", said event co-promoter Rick Delaine. "This is a race that my dad dreamed about... big money, big pressure and a big reward at the end." "The response from our racing community shows that he truly left his mark on the world of racing in Manitoba."

Event organizers are hoping to draw Modified teams from the neighboring provinces of Ontario and Saskatchewan as well as the Northern States of North Dakota and Minnesota.

According to co-promoter Pat Mooney, U.S. teams should have a smooth experience crossing the border into Canada and then back home as long as they are able to provide proof of citizenship.

Contingency Prizes include:
$250 A Main and B Main Hard Chargers
$100 Long Haul Award for U.S. team
$100 Long Haul Award for Canadian team

October 7th

Delaine Racing capped off the year at Red River Coop Speedway on a high note winning the cheaters night feature with Rick driving then his brother Kevin winning the mechanics race in Rick's car. The Delaine gang is heading to Viking speedway for the fall classic on Oct 8,9,10.This will be the last race of the year and is always a good time. We will update our results after we get back. (Special note this last event has been postponed till the following week as they have had over 4" of rain this past week and they don't think they will be able to make it a great event so they are moving it 1 week.)

September 13th

Due to Track Conditions at Red River Co-op Speedway Sept 12th with all the rain we had during the week  we had a good run in the Heat and Started 7th and Finished 1st. to make it 6 Feature Wins so far this season.

Well it has been a while since I did a full update , so here it goes. The end of August went pretty well with a feature win at RRCS  and another at Greenbush Race Park. Final points at Winnipeg put us 8th overall, not bad since we missed 3 shows after the wreck. The 2 day show at Greenbush on September long went pretty good with two second place features. Congrats to Aaron Holtan for winning the championship really good job and congrats to Ryan on winning his first feature. We have a couple races left to run this year at home then one left at Viking Speedway for the fall classic in MN.

We will have a big announcement in the next couple weeks regarding a huge modified race in winnipeg next year. Stay tune for more info.

That's it for know, more next week.

August 4th, 2009

Delaine racing had double feature night at Red River COOP Speedway. Rick started 5th and had good strong run and ended up 2nd in the first feature. Next up was the heats and the track was tacky and fast, Rick ended up 3rd.For the last feature Rick started 7th and finished 5th, the car has been getting better since the big crash and the solid results are starting to show that.

Two nights later we were in Greenbush race park. In the heat race Rick started 6th and finished 2nd,for the feature we started 7th and after some good hard racing Rick took the lead at about mid race and never looked back. This is Rick's 4th feature win at the Greenbush Race Park. We are back at Winnipeg (Red River Coop Speedway) on Aug06.

July 27th, 2009

Delaine racing headed to Greenbush Race Park on July 18th for the Elliot Baker memorial cup. There was a good turn out of cars and a good crowd on hand. We started the 3rd heat race 3rd row outside and with the line up for the feature being determined by how you finished it was important to do really good. We ended up getting second, this put us 3rd row outside for the feature. On the first lap we got hit on the left front wheel and got a flat. The guys changed the tire and we restarted last(17th). The car was really good and after allot of hard battles we worked our way up to 3rd with 4 laps to go. I thought we might have a chance at winning but the right rear tire was going flat and we had to settle for 3rd.Still a very good night. Congrats to Aaron Holton and the rest of the 2 car team for a good win.

July 11th, 2009

Delaine racing headed back to Greenbush Race Park for the Mid season championships on sat July 11 2009.In the heat race Rick started forth and with about two laps to go took the lead and won the heat. This put us on the front row for the feature. In the feature Rick took the lead on the drop of the green and never looked back, leading every lap of the 20 lap event. We are starting to figure out this banged up 2009 Larry Shaw modified, it is not perfect yet but it is getting faster every week. Next week at Greenbush Race park is the big Elliot Baker memorial race, Delaine racing is the defending champion of this race and has high hopes of winning it again. Our next race will be at Red River Coop Speedway on Thursday then off to Greenbush on Saturday.

July 4th, 2009

First off I would like to thank everyone for the support my family and I have received these last couple weeks. To say this has been the worst month of my life is a under statement. With wrecking the brand new race car and the death of my father a couple weeks later, well you get the picture. I am happy to report that after hundreds of hours of work we have got the 2009 Larry Shaw race car back on track. We ran it a couple times at Winnipeg to sort things out and started to get it back up to speed. We took the car back to Greenbush Race park for the July 4th race and it started out a little rough in the heat but we had a good set up for the feature. We started 8th in the feature and when the green flag dropped we wasted no time getting to the front. We had a couple good battles and in the end we got the win. This is what we needed after all we have been threw. This is my first win with out my dad and it felt very different, but racing is what we do so we will continue to do it the only way we know, 110 percent wide open. Thanks again to everybody for the support you all gave the Delaine family threw some very tough times.

June 22nd, 2009

We have lost a good friend from the Delaine Racing Family

Al Delaine passed away today at the Stonewall Hospital with his wife Helen and modified driver Rick Delaine and Ricks brother Enduro Ace Kevin by his side. Al loved racing and the race track will be very different with out him. Even his last days fighting cancer he was telling the boys what to do to the cars for the next race. Even speed channel was on his TV when he died. The Service will be held at at Mackenzie Funeral Home 433 Main Street in Stonewall at 11:00 Friday June 26th.

June 4th, 2009

Opening day finally came at Red River Coop Speedway under a cloudy and cold Winnipeg night. The night started off with Rick dominating his heat race, and winning it with about a full straightaway lead. The new Larry Shaw car was hooked up and gone. For the feature they used a redraw system witch put Rick in the 8th starting spot. The car was really fast for the feature but because of a few drivers with there heads up there butt We went home with a wrecked race car. The new 2009 Larry Shaw car is all but done, Rick is really banged up and bruised but other wise ok. We might have to look at bringing out the 2006 Larry Shaw car again but will make that decision later next week. We will update everyone when we know a little more.

Delaine racing headed back to Greenbush Race park for a third night of racing. The heat race went not to bad and we ended up second. For the feature the track looked pretty good a little dryer then it has been. We tried some new things on the car and they seemed to be very positive. We started fourth in the feature and after some very tough battles ended up in second place. The Larry Shaw, Winnipeg Engine, Interlake Welding, Jonson's Hog BAR-B-QUE car worked very well and came up just a little short behind Luke Dykstra of Winnipeg (also has a Winnipeg Engine).

Delaine racing was at Red River COOP Speedway on Sunday May 31 for testing. Testing went very well and look forward to opening day June 4th.See you all at the track this Thursday 7:30 for opening day.

May 23rd, 2009

Delaine racing headed to Greenbush Race Park on Saturday May 23 2009 for the second night of racing. The track was in much better shape this week and the Delaine racing gang was ready for week two. Rick started the heat in the 6th spot 3rd row outside and finished 3rd.The feature had Rick lined up 6th as well. Rick got a good start and got to second in about 3laps.Rick chased down leader and took the lead when the leader had tire trouble. Rick lead the next 7 laps then a late caution came out with 5 to go. Rick got a good restart and the 2009 Larry Shaw Winnipeg Engine lead the last 5 laps and took the checkered flag for the first win of the year. Delaine racing will be back at Greenbush Race park this Saturday May 30.

The weather was finally not bad and we got to go racing at Greenbush Race Park. The race track started out good in the heats but got very rough for the feature. Our 2009 Larry Shaw Car hit the track for the first time and performed pretty well for opening day. There was a good car count in modifieds(17).We ended up 4th in the heat witch put us 4th row outside for the feature. In the feature Rick hit a hole on the first lap spun out and got put to back. He worked his way back up to 4th for the finish. Overall it was a good day with the new car. The Delaine gang will be back at Greenbush Race Park may 23 and our home track at Red River coop Speedway on June 4.Check back next week for updates.
